As noted in the announcement circulated May 26, 2025, APPS’ Annual General Meeting (AGM) is happening virtually on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at 7pm!
As a valued member of our pituitary community, we’re reaching out with an invitation to reconnect and re-engage with a cause that makes a real difference in the lives of Albertans affected by pituitary conditions. All APPS members who are currently active or had an active membership anytime between the periods of June 1, 2024 to June 1, 2025 are welcome to attend the AGM.
Join us as we share who we are and what we do as a society, celebrate the year's activities and successes, and elect the incoming Board members for the 2025-2026 year. Come make a difference in the lives of others! We hope to see you there!

Highlights from 2024-2025
- We increased the frequency of our virtual support group meetings to every month.
- We held our annual patient education day in Calgary for the first time. It featured 3 patient journey stories and talks from medical geneticist Dr. Micheil Innes, endocrinologist Dr. Kirstie Lithgow, and otolaryngologist Dr. Jessica Clark.
- We launched our first silent auction, and hosted two fundraisers with Blaze Pizza.
- We hosted a spring education webinar on acromegaly and patient registries. It featured endocrinologist Dr. Constance Chik and Chief Scientific Officer of Lumiio Inc. Dr. Victoria Hodgkinson.
- We represented the Alberta pituitary community at the Neurologic Education Day for Calgary-based nurses and allied health professionals, Rare Disease Day hosted by the Rare Disease Network of Alberta, and Acromegaly Canada’s national conference.
Looking to Make a Difference for People Experiencing Pituitary Conditions?
Right now, our society is powered by a small but passionate team of volunteers who are dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for pituitary patients across Alberta - and we could use your help. We’re looking for members like you to consider supporting APPS by volunteering as a Board Member or Committee Member. We are especially looking for more volunteers from outside of the Edmonton area, as our membership comes from all corners of the province and we would like to improve representation for other areas and municipalities.
Board Opportunities: Step into Leadership
We are currently seeking volunteers to join our Board of Directors. Being on the Board is an excellent way to give back while gaining leadership experience and expanding your professional network. The time commitments vary by role but generally range from 4–8 hours per month. The following positions for the Board for 2025-2026 will be elected at the upcoming AGM:
- President: Sets the strategic direction of the society, plans patient support and education events and fundraising initiatives, represents APPS to the community, and chairs Board meetings.
- Vice-President: Supports the work of the President and other Board members, prepares and distributes communications to the membership.
- Secretary: Maintains meeting minutes, ensures we stay on top of key governance deadlines, and contributes additional administrative responsibilities. Strong organizational skills are a plus for this role!
- Treasurer: Oversees financial records, budgets, and ensures the financial health of the society. This role is ideal for a person with bookkeeping or accounting experience.
- Director (multiple positions): A flexible role supporting a variety of initiatives, from event planning to strategic development. This role is great for those who want to make a meaningful impact while learning more about APPS and the non-profit world.
Committee Opportunities: Contribute Your Skills Where They’re Needed Most
Don’t have time for a Board position? No problem! Our Committees are a vital part of the society and a great way to contribute in smaller, targeted ways (2–4 hours per month and/or ad-hoc contributions closer to events). Join one that matches your interests and skills by emailing info@albertapituitary.org.
- Fundraising Committee: Help us create and implement creative ways to raise funds and support the work of APPS. This role is perfect for outgoing individuals who enjoy community outreach or marketing.
- Event Committee: Assist with organizing and delivering patient education sessions and community outreach events. This role is great for detail-oriented planners and event organizers.
- Membership Committee: Help us grow our community, welcome new members, and maintain active communication with existing ones.
