The Honourable Sarah Hoffman, Minister of Health, will declare November 1 as Acromegaly Awareness Day in a special commemorative ceremony at the Alberta Legislature. Members of the Alberta Pituitary Patient Society will be recognized in the House during the afternoon session.
Acromegaly is a rare pituitary disorder caused by an overproduction of growth hormone by the pituitary gland. This causes abnormal growth of the hands, feet, and face.
On October 11, the High Level Bridge in Edmonton featured the colours red, white, and silver (grey) for pituitary awareness. The colours are based on the pituitary awareness ribbon created by the World Alliance of Pituitary Organizations.
